After badminton one week, we decided to be particularly unhealthy and craved fried chicken. Not just any fried chicken that you get from KFC, but fried chicken with edible bones.

At this humble abode, one would hardly expect it to get as famous as it did. Looking almost exactly like a school canteen (or at least the ones in Singapore), it was quiet when we went at around 4pm....
ATL (Ayam Goreng Tulang Lunak) Maranathan specialised in, as its name suggests, fried soft bone chicken. When you've taken a seat, you order by writing in a notepad your order and bring it to the counter for payment.

And of course, you'd order their "ayam goreng tulang lunak"... It's chicken that's been coated with some sort of yeast and then pressure deep fried :D so you get to eat all the goodness of chicken, bones and all. (You can do that at maccas too, their nuggets are basically whole chicken carcasses blended in a food processor :D Yum!)

We also ordered Ayam goreng telur asin, which is fried chicken with salty egg sauce... the last time I had that sauce was on crab! :D

and their ayam goreng bumbu sambel, fried chicken with mild chilli sauce. Not spicy at all, we should have gotten the hot version instead of mild, but who knew what "mild" interprets when it comes to Indonesian cuisine.
Accompanied by coconut rice and gado gado:

Gado gado probably saved us a bit, with some vegetables to go with the fried chicken, though it's not much healthier, since it's been drenched in peanut sauce. It felt like I was back in Singapore, on that street that sold satay... coconut rice and gado gado being typical street food there too, even though I know ATL is an Indonesian restaurant.
This place is seriously the best for lazy people who can't be bothered with bones because you eat it all and leave nothing behind. You don't even use your hands, a fork and spoon cuts through the bones like hot knife and butter. They do have desserts as well, namely durian cheesecake, Indonesian style, which I was very tempted to try, but with just the three of us, we couldn't have finished the whole box of it. I've only tried Indonesian cheesecake once, and it was interesting, with Kraft's Cheddar cheese grated around the buttercream icing.
Need to revisit. I haven't forgotten the duck. There's a duck version! Imagine eating duck, bones and all!! ST! BW! Recruiting team members so we can tackle the box of durian cheesecake too!

Durian cheesecake with kraft cheddar cheese?
'm up for a return visit, so long as you promise not to make me eat the hot version of the ayam goreng bumbu sambel. I'm looking forward to trying the cheesecake :) two new things in one dish.
Yeah indonesian cheesecake is a bit weird.
It's kind of like a spongecake sprinkled (think pizza-style pre-oven) with cheedar cheese. Apparently only kraft cheddar too.
A bit salty, but good nonetheless.
